Peru: National doctor strike November 28-29

Doctors nationwide have been called to strike on Wednesday, November 28, and Thursday, November 29, to demand the Ministry of Health (Minsa) implement promises made in 2017. According to the union behind the strike, some 25,000 doctors are expected to take part.

Health services will likely be limited nationwide during this 48-hour period, with residual disruptions possible in the following days. Emergency rooms should remain open but non-urgent cases may be turned away and significantly increased waiting times are likely.

Associated protests are to be anticipated, notably in the capital Lima, where doctors will gather beginning at 07:00 (local time) on Wednesday in front of the Dos de Mayo Hospital before marching to the Minsa building.

The union has warned that if its demands are not met, the strike could be renewed indefinitely.
