Unions representing transportation workers calls for strike in Emilia-Romagna on December 3; anticipate transportation disruptions

Warning

Event

Unions representing transportation workers have called for a strike to take place in Emilia-Romagna region on Monday, December 3. Rail workers are expected to strike for 24 hours, which is expected to cause severe disruptions throughout the TPER rail network. Public transportation workers in Bologna will also participate in the strike from 8:30 to 16:30 (local time), and from 19:30 to the end of the day. Reduced services, delays, and overcrowding on buses and commuter rail lines are likely during and following the strike periods. Increased traffic congestion and demand for taxis is also possible in urban areas.

Context

Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.

Advice

Travelers in Bologna are advised to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
