Roadside bomb kills at least two civilians in Fallujah’s Al-Nuaimiya district on February 26; similar attacks possible over the near term

Informational

Event

At least two civilians were killed and two others were wounded when a roadside bomb placed by suspected Islamic State (IS) militants exploded in Fallujah's Al-Nuaimiya district (Anbar province) on Tuesday, February 26. Similar roadside bomb attacks are possible in Fallujah over the near term.

Context

While former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claimed victory over IS in December 2017, the group retains a degree of freedom of movement in parts of the country, particularly in western and northern Iraq.

Advice

Individuals in Anbar province are advised to report suspicious objects and behavior to the police, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
