Leaders of the opposition Democratic Party announced on Wednesday, February 27, that a rally in Tirana planned for Thursday, February 28, has been canceled. However, opposition leaders have confirmed that nationwide protests are still set to be held on Saturday, March 16. Context

Opposition supporters have held several demonstrations in Tirana in recent weeks outside of the parliament building to denounce perceived government corruption and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Clashes between protesters and police were reported during a related demonstration in Tirana on February 16, with demonstrators throwing Molotov cocktails and attempting to storm the building that houses the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama (Kryeministria). At least 15 people were wounded. Demonstrations also took place outside parliament on February 21.
