Comoros: Cyclone Kenneth kills at least three people as of April 26

Recovery efforts are ongoing across Comoros as of Friday, April 26, following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Kenneth on the night (local time) of Wednesday, April 24. The storm produced sustained winds of around 140 kph (87 mph) when it passed by the islands, felling trees and ripping the roofs off of homes. Emergency personnel and soldiers were deployed on Thursday, April 25, to unblock roads. Power outages were reported in parts of the main island, Grande Comore, the capital Moroni, and the island of Anjouan. According to President Azali Assoumani, at least three people were killed by the storm and several others injured. Lingering power and transportation disruptions are expected in the coming days; Kenya Airlines announced on Thursday that flights had been canceled to Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport (HAH), which services Moroni, after the authorities closed the airport as a precaution.
