Druze protesters reportedly blocked several roads with burning tires in Aley on the morning (local time) of Monday, July 1, to denounce the death of two aides to Lebanese Druze minister Saleh Gharib during an attack against his convoy on Sunday, June 30. The Bhamdoun highway as well as the road leading from Baalchmay to Sofar have been blocked. Localized disruptions, including transportation disruptions and congestion on alternative routes, are likely in the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Context
On June 30, unidentified gunmen killed two aides to the Lebanese Druze minister Saleh Gharib as the minister's convoy passed near Aley, leaving two other people injured. The minister asserted that the attack was an "assassination attempt" against him. The attack took place in an area reportedly loyal to a rival Druze leader, Walid Joumblatt, who has denied involvement in the assault.
