South Korea: Postal workers to strike nationwide July 9

South Korean media outlets have reported that postal workers represented by the Korea Postal Workers Union (KPWU) are due to strike on Tuesday, July 9. Participants are demanding better working conditions. The union has not yet announced any associated demonstrations as of Friday, July 5, however; additional industrial action is possible.

Context

The Parcel Delivery Workers' Solidarity Union held a strike and rally in Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on July 4, which was the first instance postal workers in South Korea have participated in a general strike.

Since July 3, more than 50,000 non-regular public sector workers have been marching in the capital each day - usually gathering in Gwanghwamun Square - to protest poor working conditions and wage discrimination.
