Aar Li Nu Bokk calls for demonstrations in several cities on July 13; localized transportation disruptions expected

The Aar Li Nu Bokk civil society group has called for protests in several major cities in Senegal on Saturday, July 13, to denounce President Macky Sall's alleged involvement in a petroleum sector corruption scandal and to call for greater transparency in government efforts to exploit the country's natural resource. In Saint-Louis, participants are expected to meet at Place Pointe à Pitre in Guet N'Dar at 15:00 (local time). In Diourbel, members plan to gather in front of the post office at 15:00. Local media outlets also report that a protest is scheduled in Kaolack, however, organizers have not yet announced a location or time. At least 400 people attended a similar protest in the capital, Dakar, on Friday, July 12.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated near all protest sites. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Similar demonstrations are possible over the coming weeks.
Context
Aar Li Nu Bokk has staged weekly anti-government demonstrations since June 14. At least 17 people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters during the first rally.
