Liberia: Nationwide anti-government protest planned July 24 /update 2

Anti-government protest planned across Liberia on July 24; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Council of Patriots association has announced a nationwide protest on Wednesday, July 24, to demand meaningful reforms that will lead to improved living standards for Liberians. This demonstration follows the Council of Patriots' "Save the State" protest on June 7, which they claim yielded no meaningful government action toward reform. The Council of Patriots stated in a press conference that the protest will continue until "all of [their] demands are met." It is possible that protests will continue through and possibly interfere with Liberian Independence Day celebrations on Friday, July 26.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are possible in the days around the planned nationwide protest.

Advice

Individuals in Liberia are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
