South Korea: Monsoon rains to hit Seoul and central regions July 26-28

Authorities issue heavy rain advisories for Seoul and central provinces for July 26-28; flooding, landslides, and transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Korean Meteorological Administration has issued heavy rain advisories for Seoul and several central provinces from Friday, July 26, through Sunday, July 28. Advisories are in affect for parts of the provinces of Gangwon and Gyeonggi. Rainfall totals between 8-20 cm (3-8 in) are expected in the central region, and up to 30 cm (12 in) in isolated areas. Flooding, landslides, power outages, and transportation disruptions, including train delays and road closures, are possible in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
