Peru will hold National Holiday celebrations on Sunday, July 28, and Monday, July 29, to commemorate the anniversary of Peru's independence from the Spanish Empire in 1821. Events will be held nationwide, with the largest celebrations taking place in Lima, likely amid a heightened security presence. Official Independence Day celebrations will begin in the morning (local time) on July 28, and continue throughout the day; large crowds are expected to gather along the route from the Government Palace to the Peruvian Congress for a procession. A military parade will be held in the capital down Avenida Brasil on July 29 beginning at 10:00. Similar celebrations and festivities will likely take place in cities nationwide.

Business and traffic disruptions are possible throughout the country on July 28 and 29.
