Turkey: Public workers to protest in Ankara August 1 after cross-country marches

Public employees march from across the region to protest in Ankara on August 1; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions expected

Members of the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions are slated to protest at the Ministry of Justice in Ankara on Thursday, August 1. The members reportedly seek to demand secure employment, improved working conditions, and better salaries, among other issues. Demonstrators will gather in Ankara at 10:00 (local time) on Thursday after completing cross-country marches from the cities of Van, Edirne, Muğla, and Artvin to the protest site in the capital.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are to be expected around groups of marchers on the roads leading to Ankara and at the associated protest site in the capital.
