A political group plans to demonstrate in Kinshasa on August 15; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions likely
Event
The Alliance des Forces Démocratiques du Congo et Alliées (AFDC-A) has called for a march in Kinshasa on Thursday, August 15, in support of Modeste Bahati Lukwebo, who has been expelled from the Front commun pour le Congo parliamentary group since he proclaimed himself as a presidential candidate to the Senate. Participants plan to gather at avenue de Libération and then march to Palais de la Nation via the Mandela roundabout. However, they did not immediately announce a meeting time. At least 1000 people gathered for a similar march in the capital on Saturday, August 10, which officials did not allow to proceed.
According to local media reports, olice officers have deployed along the march route. Localized transportation disruptions are likely in the affected areas.
Advice
Individuals in Kinshasa are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
