South Korea: Tropical Storm Lingling forecast to hit September 6-7

Recently formed Tropical Storm Lingling is forecast to make landfall in southwestern areas September 6-7; Lingling expected to intensify in the coming days

Tropical Storm Lingling continues to move north towards South Korea from the Philippines as of the afternoon (local time) of Tuesday, September 3. According to forecasts on Tuesday, Lingling is expected to hit southwestern parts of South Korea on Friday, September 6, or Saturday, September 7. The storm is forecast to intensify before making landfall on the west coast, possibly as a typhoon. Lingling is expected to bring heavy rain, damaging winds, and strong waves. Associated flooding and transportation disruptions (including flight delays and cancelations) are possible.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Tropical Storm Lingling is located at approximately 20.1°N 123.9°E (map here) with maximum sustained winds of 76 kph (47 mph). The storm is moving north-northwest at 20 kph (12 mph)

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
