Severe weather conditions forecast countrywide due to Typhoon Lingling between September 6-7; heavy rain, strong winds, lightning, and associated transportation disruptions expected

Typhoon Lingling is moving north towards South Korea from Japan as of 16:00 (local time) on Thursday, September 5. According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, Lingling is forecast to bring heavy rains and strong winds to Jeju Island, Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and the coast of Jeolla on Friday, September 6, including up to 120 mm (5 in) of rainfall in some areas. On Saturday, September 7, Lingling is expected to bring heavy rain and damaging winds to the whole country except Gangwon and the southern coast.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Tropical Storm Lingling is located at approximately 27.2°N 125.0°E (map here) with maximum sustained winds of 76 kph (47 mph). The storm is moving north-northwest at 20 kph (12 mph).

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
