Mining sector declares an indefinite nationwide strike to begin on September 10; associated protests planned

Members of the FNTMMSP miners' union are to go on a nationwide indefinite strike as of Tuesday, September 10. Miners will also hold two protest, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 11. The protest on Tuesday is scheduled to take place at 17:00 (local time) at the Plaza San Martín in Lima. On Wednesday, participants will gather at 09:00 at Casa Del Minero, also in Lima.

Significant transportation disruptions, including roadblocks and street closures, are to be expected during the protests. A heightened security presence is possible around any protests.

Other associated protests are to be expected in the coming days and weeks in Lima, as well as other urban centers throughout the country.

Individuals in Peru, and Lima especially, are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations, prepare for associated disruptions to transportation and business, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
