Context

The day of Ashura commemorates the killing of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein ibn Ali, by a rival Muslim faction in Karbala in present-day Iraq, in 680 AD. Muharram is a month of remembrance for Muslims, who mourn from the first night of Muharram and continue for ten nights, culminating with a large procession on the 10th of Muharram, the Day of Ashura.
