Warning

Event

Representatives of former prisoners who were held in an Israeli detention facility during the occupation of southern Lebanon from 1985 to 2000 have called for a sit-in in Beirut on Tuesday, September 17. Participants plan to gather at 10:30 (local time) in front of the Military Tribunal Court, to coincide with the interrogation of Amer Elias Fakhouri, who was the commander of the camp until leaving for Israel in 1998. According to media reports, Fakhouri recently returned to Lebanon around Friday, September 13, and was detained by the Lebanese General Security Directorate in relation to a 1998 conviction.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site.

Advice

Individuals in Beirut are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
