South Korea: Tropical Storm Tapah to affect South Korea September 21-23

The Korean Peninsula is expected to receive heavy rain and strong winds from Saturday, September 21, through Monday, September 23, as Tropical Storm Tapah moves into the region. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Tapah is expected to strengthen into a typhoon by Saturday and impact southern regions and east coast areas. As of Friday, September 20, Tapah is projected to pass between South Korea and Japan on Sunday, September 22, without making landfall. Associated flooding, strong storm surge, and transportation disruptions, including to flights, rail, and ferry service, are possible in the coming days. Power outages may also occur.

As of 06:00 on Friday, Tropical Storm Tapah is located at approximately 23.0°N 127.2°E (map here) with maximum sustained winds of 72 kph (45 mph). The storm is moving west at 10 kph (6 mph) and is expected to turn northeast.
