On Sunday, September 22, opposition group Nicaraguan Patriotic Alliance (APN) has claimed responsibility for a series of explosions that took place on Saturday, September 21. On Saturday at 20:00 (local time), a bridge that led to Port Corinto exploded in the Chinandega department. The group also claims to have carried out other small explosions on the same date. Upon taking responsibility, the group stated that such attacks would continue to take place "until the dictatorship is broken."

Similar attacks are to be expected throughout Nicaragua in the comings several weeks. Anti-government protests are also likely in the coming several weeks.
