Healthcare staff launch nationwide indefinite strike September 23; associated protests reported

The Liberian Health Workers Association (WHA) has launched an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, September 23, to denounce their inability to provide adequate services because a lack of basic health material in state hospitals and unpaid salaries. On Tuesday, September 24, several pregnant women have staged a protest near a health center in Monrovia, to denounce their inability to receive healthcare services due to the ongoing strike. Protesters reportedly erected roadblocks near the protest site.

Disruptions to healthcare services, including longer wait times and canceled appointments, are to be expected nationwide over the coming days. Additional related protests and associated traffic disruptions are likely during the strike.
