The Angol Oral Criminal Court announced on Wednesday, October 2, that the trial for an indigenous man's murder has been set for Tuesday, November 26, in the Araucanía region. The trial is expected to last two months.

The victim's community members and other groups have protested for justice several times since his death. Associated protests are likely to take place in the coming weeks prior to, as well as during, the trial, amid a heightened security presence.

Context

Camilo Catrillanca, the 24-year-old victim, was shot dead while traveling with a 15-year-old on a tractor on November 14, 2018, in the Mapuche community of Temucuicui, located about 600 km (372 mi) south of Santiago.
