Germany: Further nationwide protests scheduled October 19 /update 1

Event

A nationwide mobilization to express opposition for Turkey's ongoing military campaign in northern Syria has been called for Saturday, October 19. Protests have been announced in many German cities.

• Berlin: participants will gather at Potsdamer Platz at 13:00 (local time).
• Frankfurt: protesters will gather at Am Hauptbahnhof at 16:00.
• Freiburg: protesters will gather at Platz der Alten Synagogue at 17:00.
• Hamburg: protesters will gather at the S Bahn Haltestelle Sternschanze at 15:00.
• Hanover: protesters will gather at Hauptbahnhof at 14:00.
• Leipzig: protesters will gather at the Eisenbahnstraße at 16:00.
• Nuremberg: protesters will gather at the Aufseßplatz at 15:00.
• Stuttgart: protesters will meet at Lautenschlagerstraße at 15:00.
• Magdeburg: protesters will gather at Hauptbahnhof at 17:00.
• Saarbrucken: protesters will gather at the European Gallery at 14:30.
• Cologne: protesters will gather at 11:00, though a location has not yet been announced.

Associated protests are likely in other urban centers across the country. A heightened security presence is to be expected, as well as associated transportation disruptions at and near all demonstration sites. Clashes among protesters, as well as between protesters and police, cannot be ruled out. 

Context

Five people were injured at a related protest in Herne (North Rhine-Westphalia) on Monday, October 14. Clashes broke out in the evening during a related demonstration near a Turkish café. Clashes therefore cannot be ruled out. A heightened security presence is to be expected, as well as associated transportation disruptions at and near all demonstration sites.
