Police surround church where families of political prisoners are gathered November 18; avoid the area

A heightened security presence has been reported at the Church of San Miguel in Masaya on Monday, November 18, where the family of political prisoners have locked themselves in a hunger strike. Police have allegedly surrounded the church, arrested 13 people that were bringing the families supplies and support.

The families are holding a hunger strike to demand the release of political prisoners and to denounce the abuse of human rights that take place in the country over the right to protest, though also in the prisons.

A heightened security presence is expected to continue, as are clashes between police and supporters of the political prisoners
