DRC: Sit-in protest reported in Lubumbashi January 10

The LUCHA youth activist group has called for a sit-in protest to take place in front of the provincial assembly building in Lubumbashi (Haut-Katanga province) on Friday, January 10. Protesters are expected to gather as of 09:00 (local time) to demand an independent audit of the Congolese mining company Gecamines.

An increased security presence, as well as localized traffic disruptions, are likely. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
