Thailand: Storms damage over 800 homes in northern Thailand April 13

Strong summer storms on Monday, April 13, damaged 826 homes in 118 villages across Chanthaburi, Chiang Rai, Chon Buri, Khon Kaen, Loei, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Phitsanulok, and Udon Thani provinces. According to local reports, a tornado was seen in Si Racha (Chon Buri province). Flash floods caused by strong winds and heavy rain were also reported in Bangkok.

The Thai Meteorological Department stated that the storms are expected to continue and issued weather warnings at 05:00 (local time) on Tuesday, April 14, for Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, and Tak provinces in the north. Summer storms, along with strong winds, lightning, and hail, are possible in the region. Storm warnings were also issued for Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces in the east, as well as Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi in central Thailand.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid open areas, tall trees, and insecure buildings. Residual transportation disruptions, additional flooding, and associated damages are possible in the affected area in the coming days.

In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of water is enough to knock over an adult.
