On Friday, May 29, fighting reportedly broke out between the Tatmadaw (Myanmar armed forces) and the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) near Nant Phat Kar village in Shan State. The clashes were the first to be reported since a ceasefire was declared for the month of May. The fighting lasted around five hours and resulted in the temporary closing of the Kutkai tollgate on National Highway 3. The Tatmadaw have not released a statement regarding the incident. Further security operations are likely following the expiry of the ceasefire on June 1.
