Flooding and damaged infrastructure reported in Valparaíso due to heavy rain June 12-13; further heavy rain expected
Event
Heavy rain since Friday morning (local time), June 12, has caused road infrastructure damage due to the flooding of streets and low-level crossings. As of Saturday, June 13, the main affected areas within Valparaíso include the sectors of Los Aromos, Peñuelas Lake, and Cerro Colorado.
Further heavy rain across Valparaíso is expected from Monday evening, June 15. Associated flooding, infrastructure damage, power outages, and transportation disruptions are possible in the region over the coming days.
Advice
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
