New Zealand's MetService has issued heavy rain warnings and watches for areas on the east coast of North Island between Saturday, June 20, and Monday, June 22. A heavy rain warning has been issued for the Gisborne region and north of Tolaga Bay between 09:00 (local time) on Saturday until 06:00 on Monday. Rainfall accumulations of 170 to 220 mm (6.5 to 8.5 in) are expected north of Tokomaru Bay and 90 to 130 mm (3.5 to 5 in) further south. Thunderstorms are also possible and the heavy rain may cause flooding and landslides. A heavy rain watch has also been issued for the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty north of Katikati between 23:00 on Saturday and 23:00 on Sunday, June 21.

Dangerous driving conditions and disruption to transport and business operations are possible in affected areas over the weekend.
