Five people died and five others were injured after a landslide occurred at a gold mine in Bakoumana (Kankan region) on Sunday, July 5. Around a dozen gold panners from the Burkinabe Muslim community were sheltering in the mine due to heavy rain when the landslide occurred. The local Red Cross team were called to assist in the response operations.

Further rainfall is forecast in Kankan region into next week and associated landslides and other disruptions are possible in the coming days.
