Unidentified gunmen killed at least 20 villagers during attacks in Kauru local government area (LGA) (Kaduna state) on Thursday and Friday evenings (local time), July 9-10. Many more have been reported missing as of Saturday evening, July 11. A spokesperson with the Kaduna State Police Command said the attacks occurred in the villages of Chibuak on June 9 and Kigudu II on June 10. The gunmen fled before security personnel arrived on the scene.

A heightened security presence is expected in Kauru LGA in the coming days and further attacks are possible in Kaduna state over the near term.
