Rocket sirens sounded in southern Israel as Iron Dome intercepts rocket from Gaza Strip on August 2; further attacks possible
Event
On the evening of Sunday, August 2, rocket sirens were sounded in the communities of Sderot, Ibim, Erez, Or Haner, and Nir Am, in southern Israel northeast of the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted a rocket fired from the enclave. Minor damage was reported to vehicles in Sderot due to shrapnel. The rocket launch is the first such incident in over a month, as reported truce negotiations between Gaza's ruling Hamas party and the Israeli government continue.
Further rocket launches from Gaza towards Israel and Israeli retaliatory attacks are possible in the near term.
Advice
Individuals in Israel and the Palestinian Territories are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
Some Western governments advise their citizens against all travel to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and areas near the Israeli-Lebanese, Israeli-Syrian, and Israeli-Egyptian borders.
