On Saturday, August 15, several demonstrations have been planned by liberal and conservative groups in the capital Seoul. August 15 is celebrated as National Liberation Day and reports indicate that activists have called for multiple unrelated rallies using this as an opportunity to demonstrate their respective causes. According to reports, the demonstrations are over several issues including demands for President Moon Jae-in's impeachment and newly-imposed government real estate regulations. Local media sources indicate that thousands of people are expected to participate. The Seoul government has reportedly asked for the rallies to be canceled, amid coronavirus disease (COVID-19) concerns. Protests have been planned in the following locations (all times local):

Further demonstrations and associated localized travel disruptions are to be expected in the capital on Saturday. Although the rallies are expected to pass peacefully, clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. A heightened security presence should be anticipated also.
