Militants kill seven people in attack in Irumu territory (Ituri province) on August 15; further attacks possible
Event
Militants killed seven people and stole more than two hundred cows in an attack in the village of Murubia (Irumu territory; Ituri province) on Saturday, August 15. The attack was attributed to members of the armed group Force de Resistance Patriotique du Congo (FPIC). Reportedly, several homes were destroyed in the attack.
Similar attacks are possible in the region over the near term.
Context
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
