Scuffles between demonstrators reported in front of Beirut's French Embassy September 1; avoid protests as precaution

Clashes broke out on Tuesday evening, September 1, between demonstrators gathered in front of the entrance to the French embassy in Beirut. The protesters have tried to force their way through metal barriers in front of one of the main entrances to the Embassy in an attempt to force entry into the building.

There are reports of heightened security presence in the area especially as French President Emmanuel Macron is in close proximity to the location, in the Residence des Pins.

A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in the vicinity of any protest site, along with disruptions to overland travel.
