Russia: Authorities warn of inclement weather in Primorsky Krai due to Typhoon Haishen September 7-8

Authorities in Primorsky Krai warned the public of inclement weather associated with the passage of Typhoon Haishen between Monday, September 7, and Tuesday, September 8. Heavy rain is forecast to affect Vladivostok from Monday evening with up to 35mm (1.3in) of rainfall predicted in some areas in addition to high winds. Authorities have warned that power outages, falling trees, and structural damage is possible in some areas. Residents of Vladivostok have been advised to remain home and away from large structures and trees during the passage of Haishen whilst motorists have been asked to exercise heightened caution.

Typhon Haishen is currently located north of Tanchŏn (North Korea) sustaining winds of up to 65kmh (40mph) and moving in a northerly direction. Haishen is expected to weaken as it moves further inland into Jilin province (China) by Tuesday.

Those in areas forecast to be affected by the storm system are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous. Never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
