Turkey: Commemorative rallies to take place nationwide September 10

Communist Party of Turkey calls for commemorative rallies nationwide on September 10; avoid any large gatherings as a precaution

Warning

Event

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) has called for commemorative rallies from 19:00 (local time) on Thursday, September 10, in various unspecified locations nationwide. This comes after their applications for rallies in the capital Ankara, Izmir, and Istanbul province were denied due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) concerns. TKP is celebrating its 100th anniversary and the rallies are therefore likely to attract large numbers of participants.

All such gatherings are considered to be unauthorized and security forces may forcibly disperse any gatherings which do occur. A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected near all rally sites.

Advice

Those in Turkey are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all large gatherings as a precaution, anticipate localized transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
