Chile: Protests reported in multiple cities nationwide September 11

Event

Protests were reported in Santiago on Friday, September 11, with supporters commemorating the 47th anniversary of the death of former president Salvador Allende. Riot police were called out to disperse protesters in Santiago's General Cemetery, the burial site of Allende, and Plaza Baquedano, a well-known protest area of the capital. In Rancagua, protesters gathered at Hero's Plaza, the site of a speech by Allende announcing the nationalization of the copper industry in the country in 1971. 

Associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of all protests, as well as a heightened security presence.
