Honduras: Tornado injures at least 14 people in Managua on September 17

Honduran authorities reported that a tornado struck multiple neighborhoods in Managua on the evening of Thursday, September 17, causing damage to over 100 homes and injuring at least 14 people. The worst of the damage and injuries reportedly occurred in the Monseñor Lezcano neighborhood of the city. Additional damages were also reported in the areas of Batahola Norte and Miraflores. The Mayor's Office reports that wind gusts were estimated to have exceeded 62 mph (100 kph) and that firefighters, paramedics, and the National Police have been deployed to the affected areas to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. 

Associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely in affected areas. Power outages are also possible.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports and anticipate transportation disruptions (including road closures). Furthermore, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
