Lebanon: Anti-government protest scheduled in Tripoli for October 16

An anti-government protest is scheduled to take place in Tripoli on Friday, October 16, outside the Old Ministry Building at 17:00 (local time). Security forces are likely to forcibly disperse the protesters, with public and private sector unions also calling for further demonstrations nationwide. The protests are being called over socio-economic grievances that have been exacerbated by coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related restrictions.

A heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the event.
