An abandoned grenade reportedly exploded in Addis Ababa's Akaki-Kaliti neighborhood Dec. 29, killing one person and injuring another. The explosive device had been discovered by two children who were playing with it when the blast occurred. This is the second such incident to occur in the Ethiopian capital within less than two weeks. On Dec. 20, an abandoned grenade exploded in the city's Lindeta neighborhood, killing three persons and injuring five others. Investigators as yet have not determined how the grenades were left in either of the two incidents or by whom.

Increased security and localized disruptions are possible near the scene of the blast until authorities determine whether any additional explosives are present in the area.
