Morocco: Unionized doctors to strike Jan. 27 due to a series of grievances, including deteriorating health services /update 1

Several health unions, including the National Syndicate of Public Health and the National Union of Health, have announced plans to strike nationwide on Jan. 27. The labor action is in response to a series of grievances, including poor working conditions, low pay, and deteriorating health services. Organizers have not called for demonstrations; however, protests associated with doctors' strikes have previously occurred outside the Ministry of Health in Rabat and regional health directorates throughout the country.

The strike will likely affect non-emergency health services at all government hospitals; facilities will continue to provide emergency and coronavirus disease (COVID-19) treatment. It remains unclear if private health clinics will participate in the strike; however, increased demand could disrupt services at private facilities.
