Suspected militants killed at least 28 people injured about 12 others in the Babo Gambela district (woreda) in the Oromia region's Western Wollega Zone, March 30. Security forces have yet to apprehend the perpetrators. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Context

Regional security officials regularly accuse the Oromo Liberation Front-Shane (OLF-S) of perpetrating such attacks. The OLF-S does not usually comment on attacksn. The OLF-S broke off from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) after the OLF signed a peace accord with the federal government in August 2018. OLF-S remains active in Western Oromia and North Shewa Zone, killing civilians and attacking banks and government facilities.
