Timor-Leste extended COVID-19 measures in Baucau and Viqueque through 23:59 April 9. Transport, business disruptions likely to continue.

Critical

Event

Authorities have extended restrictions in Baucau and Viqueque municipalities in eastern Timor-Leste through 23:59 April 9 due to continued COVID-19 concerns. Officials continue to require residents to stay at home, except for urgent medical assistance, purchasing essential goods and services, or traveling to work for employees that must be onsite. All gatherings, including religious services, remain banned.

Almost all travel, including air and maritime transport, from and between the municipalities, remain restricted. Exceptions are in place for safety, public health, or humanitarian reasons. Officials will probably continue to maintain tightened security measures, including erect checkpoints on main entry points to and from the localities, to enforce restrictions. Local authorities may extend or amend the protocols, depending on the local situation and COVID-19 activity. Significant business disruptions will likely continue due to transport restrictions.

Advice

Heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations. Confirm transport reservations. Remain cooperative if questioned by law enforcement officers.
