Timor-Leste: Authorities implementing stay-home orders in Dili through May 13 due to COVID-19 /update 5
Timor-Leste implementing stay-home rules in Dili through May 13. Tight security measures, business disruptions likely to continue.
Event
Authorities are implementing stay-home orders in Dili through May 13 to stem the spread of COVID-19. Exceptions from the measure are in place for urgent medical assistance, purchasing essential goods and services, or traveling to work for employees that must be onsite. Authorities earlier lifted the measure to facilitate emergency response following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Seroja.
Officials continue to restrict almost all travel, including air and maritime transport, from Dili. Exemptions are possible for safety, public health, or humanitarian reasons. All gatherings, including religious services, remain banned, though exceptions are likely to aid efforts.
Authorities will probably maintain increased security protocols, including erecting checkpoints on main entry points to and from Dili, through at least May 13 to enforce restrictions. People allowed to enter or leave Dili must travel through checkpoints that operate 06:00-16:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Significant business disruptions will likely continue due to the protocols.
Advice
Heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid nonessential operations in areas impacted by the protocols. Confirm transport reservations. Remain cooperative if questioned by law enforcement officers.
