Further communal violence is possible in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, near the Ivorian border through at least late May, following clashes in the area May 18. The violence, which occurred between members of the Fulani and Krahn communities, was sparked by the death of a Krahn resident previously injured by members of the Fulani community. During the violence, individuals involved stormed and looted several businesses, including police posts, and erected roadblocks, causing significant disruptions in the area. There have been no casualties recorded yet. Police officials confirmed the incident and deployed security forces to restore order. As of May 20, there are no further reports of violence, though tensions remain.

An increased security presence is likely to remain in the city in the coming days resulting in transport disruptions in the area. Further clashes are possible in the vicinity of Zwedru. Police personnel and infrastructure may also be targeted.
