Czech Republic: Anti-government activists to march in central Prague, June 1
Protesters to march in Prague, Czech Republic, June 1 to call for resignation of Justice Minister; localized disruptions likely.
Event
Activists plan to demonstrate in central Prague June 1 to demand the resignation of Minister of Justice Marie Benesova. Participants will gather on Albertov at 17:30, before marching via the Ministry of Justice to Wenceslas Square. Participation could reach the low thousands.
Additional police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the action. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in the area around the march route and Wenceslas Square. Current COVID-19 measures in the Czech Republic severely restrict public gatherings; security services may attempt to shut down the gathering if it is deemed to be breaching these restrictions and may arrest unruly participants. Isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow extra time for travel in the vicinity of the march route June 1.
