Additional soldiers are deploying into Rumbek East County, Lakes State, as of June 14 after fighting between rival communities left at least 14 people dead and over 16 others wounded. According to local officials, fighting between members of the Gony and Thuyic communities began June 12 . Authorities claimed that the situation stabilized by June 13.
A heightened security presence is likely in the area over the coming days; security forces are securing Highway A43 between Cueigakteng and Rumbek. Further clashes between rival communities are also possible over the coming days and weeks. Incidents are unlikely to target foreign personnel; however, the risk from incidental violence remains high.
Rumbek is located approximately 300 km (186 mi) northwest of Juba.
