South Korea: Labor groups plan to protest outside of the Ministry of Employment and Labor in Sejong from 15:00 June 29

Labor groups plan to protest outside the Ministry of Employment and Labor in Sejong, South Korea, from 15:00 June 29.

Informational

Event

Members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) plan to rally outside the Ministry of Employment and Labor in Sejong from 15:00 June 29. KCTU leaders have called the protest to demand an increased national minimum wage. Participation in the rally will likely be in the dozens to low hundreds.

Increased security is almost certain in areas around the intended rally venue, as the protest will violate COVID-19 gathering restrictions. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the park, especially if police block nearby roads to prevent the demonstration or drivers from conducting marches. Police have warned they will disperse the gathering, and clashes between protesters and security personnel are possible.

Advice

Avoid the Ministry of Employment and Labor and nearby areas due to the potential for clashes during the June 29 protest. If travel to the area is unavoidable, limit exposure to the protest site. Follow all official instructions and allow additional time to reach destinations.
