Warning

Event

Authorities have imposing entry and exit controls in Ho Chi Minh City as of July 7 amid increased local COVID-19 activity. Exemptions are in place for the transport of essential goods and business reasons, among others. At least nine locations, including Quang Ninh, Quang Binh, Gia Lai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Nghe An, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Nam provinces, as well as Haiphong and Thanh Hoa cities, have suspended flights with Ho Chi Minh City.

Other restrictions remain in place. Officials continue to ban nonessential gatherings of over three people. Most public transport, including intracity and intercity bus services, are suspended. Forms of public transport that can continue operating, such as app-based motorbike taxi services and vehicles transporting people in medical emergencies, must adhere to certain protocols, such as compulsory facemask use. Nonessential business operations remain suspended, as do cultural, recreational, and sports activities in public venues. The government continues to encourage people to remain at home except to attend to essential tasks. Locals above the age of 60 must remain at their residences, except when attending to medical emergencies.

Authorities continue to impose stringent entry and exit restrictions in several areas of District 8, along with the districts of Binh Chanh, Binh Tan, Hoc Mon, Tan Phu, and Thu Duc. Exemptions are likely in place for people facing medical emergencies, among others.

Officials will likely maintain heightened security measures like checkpoints across Ho Chi Minh City, especially in areas with tighter rules, for the duration of the controls. Transport and business disruptions will probably continue to occur.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas impacted by restrictions. Confirm appointments. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Make allowances for likely business disruptions.
